The Hogueras de San Juan is the city’s most important celebration, beginning on the 20th June and lasting until the 29th. It is a festival dedicated to the fire, including events such as the proclamation (the Pregón), the setting up of the bonfires (the Plantà), the procession of the effigies (Cabalgata del Ninot), parades and processions in different neighbourhoods of the city and the main event on the 24th June, the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, when large satirical statues made of cardboard and wood are set on fire.
Officially declared to be of International, the Hogueras de San Juan go up in smoke on the 24th June during the spectacular “Night of Burning” or “Noche de la Cremà“, alongside the popular “Banyà” or “soaking” as firefighters put out the blazes.
Once the main celebrations are over, there is a fireworks competition on Cocó Beach at the far end of Postiguet Beach, every night until the fesat day of Sanit Peter on 29th June.

- 2 PM ➜ 7º Mascletás Contest in Luceros sq. Pyrotechnic Company Ferrández.
- 7 PM ➜ I Floral Ofering to the Virgen del Remedio. Itinerary: Plaza de los Luceros, Alfonso El Sabio, Rambla de Méndez Núñez, Calle San José y Plaza de Abad Penalva. Concatedral de San Nicolás.
- 10 PM ➜ Parties at barracas and racós.
SATURDAY 22TH JUNE
- 11 AM ➜ Parade of the Hogueras de San Juan’s Awards. Itinerary: Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Rafael Altamira y Rambla de Méndez Núñez hasta Portal de Elche.
- 2 PM ➜ 8º Mascletás Contest in Luceros sq. Pyrotechnic Company Martí.
- 7 PM ➜ Floral Ofering to the Virgen del Remedio. Itinerary: Plaza de los Luceros, Alfonso El Sabio, Rambla de Méndez Núñez, Calle San José y Plaza de Abad Penalva. Concatedral de San Nicolás.
- 10 PM ➜ Parties at barracas and racós.
SUNDAY 23RD JUNE

- 8 PM ➜ LXIV International Folk Parade. Itinerary: Plaza de los Luceros, Alfonso El Sabio, Rambla de Méndez Núñez, Calle Altamira y Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
- 10 PM ➜ Parties at barracas and racós.
MONDAY 24TH JUNE
- 2 PM ➜ 9º Mascletás Contest in Luceros sq. Pyrotechnic Company Hermanos Sirvent.
- 8 PM ➜ Fogueres Official Mass in the Cathedral of San Nicolás de Bari.
- 12 PM ➜ Monumental Firework from Mount Benacantil with Pyrotechnic Company Martí and after 12:01 Burning of the Official Hoguera in Plaza del Ayuntamiento. After that and throughout the night all the Bonfires of the city will be burned.
FROM TUESDAY 25TH TO SATURDAY 29TH JUNE
12 PM ➜ Every midnight, International Fireworks Competition on Cocó Beach ( next to Postiguet Beach).
